To install a zipper in knitted cardigan
- To make sure your front edges stay even, working from the right side of garment, hand baste the front edges together with a thin, contrasting yarn
- From the wrong side, pin your matching, separating zipper with zipper pull facing the garment, centered over the basted edges so the teeth are centered over the front opening of garment and the top of the zipper is at the top of the sweater opening (tabs sticking above neck edge)
- After it is well pinned, remove yarn basting from the front so you can work with the edges easier
- Make sure your zipper is lined up with the sweater edges as you hand baste the zipper down
- With contrasting sewing thread, hand baste zipper to fronts, removing pins as you go; manipulating the zipper to just the right spot as you baste (It is much easier to baste, then machine sew so you are not dealing with pins under the machine)
- Using a zipper foot and matching thread on your sewing machine, slowly machine stitch the zipper in
- Remove your hand basting thread
- Hand stitch the zipper tabs down at the top edge
- Zip!
