Christmas Ornament


Machine: Bulky (Standard instructions below)

Yarn: Loops and Threads Sequined Yarn, or any size 2 skein yarn, or a lightweight 3 ply coned yarn like Tamm 3 ply

1 –  4” Christmas glass or plastic ornament

Tension (T) : 3

  • Cast on over 22 X 23 N (needles)with WY (waste yarn) and K (knit) several R (rows)
  • 1 R ravel cord
  • Join MY (main yarn)
  • K 32 R
  • Move every other st to the right
  • T 1
  • K 2 R
  • Remove sts on long tail
  • Remove sts off ravel cord with long piece of yarn and gather sts
  • Insert ball and pull each end tight and stitch down
  • Mattress st up side. Insert yarn piece to hang ornament

Christmas Ornament


Machine: Standard

Yarn: 3 ply yarn; 2 colors if want a design like a stripe or Fair Isle

2” or 3” colored glass or plastic ball ornament

  • Tension (T) :4
  • Cast on 27 X 28 EON (every other needle) with WY (waste yarn); K several R (rows)
  • K 1 R ravel cord
  • Attach main yarn
  • K (knit) 4 R. Bring empty needles to work
  • T 7
  • K 6 -8 rows
  • K 8 – 12 rows in Fair Isle design if desired
  • K 6 – 8 rows plain
  • Transfer EOS(every other stitch) to next needle
  • T 4
  • K 4 R
  • The number of rows is variable – so you want to have about 35 rows total depending on your ball size
  • Cut yarn and take stitches off with long tail
  • Cut a separate piece of yarn and pick up first row of stitches off waste yarn
  • Remove WY and ravel cord
  • Insert ball ornament and pull top stitches tight and stitch
  • Mattress stitch seam and pull  bottom stitches tight and stitch
  • Thread a hanger of yarn
