Plated Mid-Gauge Ruana



  • Machine: Body – Mid-gauge LK 150; Ribbing – Standard Gauge
  • Yarn: 1 strand each of 2 harmonizing colors of 2/24
  • Tension: Dot between 4 & 5
  • Overall size: 24” X 64” (each piece)
  • Gauge from tension swatch: 5.25 sts per inch and 7.25 rows per inch

Make 2 pieces as follows:

Standard Machine: Ribbing

  • With both yarns together, cast on a broken toe cast on T. 0/0 over 126 needles
  • Tension 3
  • Knit 10 R ribbing
  • Move all sts to main bed
  • Remove on WY


Mid gauge LK 150 Machine: Body

  • Hang ribbing from WY onto same number of N; purl side facing
  • Place knit color in front feeder and purl color in back feeder
  • Comb and weights
  • RC 000
  • K 2 R
  • *Reform both edges with a non-roll edge as follows:
  • With a 3-prong transfer tool pick up stitches 2, 3 & 4
  • Move to sts 1, 2 & 3, doubling sts on #1 N
  • Pick up heel of st on N 5 and fill empty N #4
  • K 2 R*
  • Repeat * to * to RC 218
  • Begin reforming only on carriage side (the unformed side will be sewn into center back seam)
  • Reform side opposite carriage for second piece
  • K to RC 436
  • Remove on WY

Standard Machine: Rib edge as follows:

  • Take knitting to standard gauge machine and hang sts on same number of N on main bed off WY; purl side facing
  • Move EOS to ribber; COL
  • Tension 3
  • Knit 10 R ribbing; COL
  • Move all sts to main bed
  • With long tail, back st bind off left to right

Making up:

  • Steam block each piece to 24” X 64” – stretching ribbing so it does not pull in
  • Mattress st center back where 2 sides do not have reformed edges
  • Weave in ends
  • Flip back center fronts to show plated color if desired. Sew button to keep in place
