Yarn: I used Yoeman Panama – Cotton and Acrylic 4 ply; (This is a VERY lightweight 4 ply by US standards. It is more the weight of my 2 ply yarns); Use a yarn to match the gauge

Gauge: 7.5 sts and 10.5 rows per inch

T: 6

Size: 1 size fits most with loose, relaxed fit

FRONT: (Make 2)

  • CO 109 (54 X 55) sts with WY; knit a few R; 1 R ravel cord
  • COL; Attach MY; K 3 R; hang hem off WY
  • K 1 R (on 2nd front piece K 2 R to put Carr on reverse side)
  • RC 000
  • Carr set to HOLD
  • On side opposite carriage pull 14 sts to hold
  • K 1 R; wrap N; K 1 R
  • *Pull 16 Sts to hold, K 1 R; wrap N; K 1 R *
  • Repeat * to * 5 times total; 15 sts remain
  • Remove hold setting; K 1 R; RC 13
  • K to RC 215 while decreasing 1 st, 8 times, on left hand side (right hand side on 2nd front) every 25 R (begin at RC 25)
  • Continue to knit to RC 215
  • Carr set to hold
  • On right hand side neck edge (left hand side on 2nd front) *BO 1 st; K 2 R*; Repeat * to *6 times
  • * BO 2 sts; K 2 R*; Repeat * to * 14 times – ending at RC 253; BUT…
  • At the same time as you are binding off for the neck edge: when you reach RC 235, begin short rowing on the opposite side for shoulder by *putting 6 sts to hold; k 1 R; wrap N; K 1 R*, Repeat * to * 11 times (This is the same 2 rows you are knitting after the bind off for neck)
  • One st remains; K 1 R, wrap, K 1 R; RC 257
  • Remove hold setting on carr
  • K 1 R across all 67 N; RC 258
  • Remove 67 sts onto WY
  • Make second front reversing shaping

BACK: (Make 2)

  • CO 116 (58 X 58) sts with WY; knit a few R; 1 R ravel cord
  • COL; Attach MY; K 3 R; hang hem off WY
  • K 1 R (2 R for 2nd back)
  • RC000
  • Carr set to hold
  • On side opposite carriage *pull 5 sts to hold; K 1 R, wrap, K 1 R*; Repeat * to * 5 times; *Pull 3 N to hold; K 1 R, wrap, K 1 R*; Repeat * to * 17 times; *Pull 5 N to hold; K 1 R, wrap, K 1 R*; Repeat * to * 7 times; 5 N remain
  • Remove hold setting; K 1 R; at RC 59
  • RC 000 (RC does not start over on fronts)
  • K to RC 235 while decreasing on right hand side (left side for 2nd back) as follows: beginning at RC 10 *full fashion dec 1 st; K 10 R*
  • Repeat * to * 20 times total; RC 200
  • *K 7 R; Dec 1 st*; Repeat * to * 4 times; RC 228
  • K 7 R; RC 235
  • Carr set to hold
  • At RC 235, *on opposite side of carriage, *putting 6 sts to hold; k 1 R; wrap N; K 1 R*; Repeat * to * 10 times; pull 5 sts to hold, K 1 R, wrap, K 1 R; 1 time; BUT…
  • At the same time as you are short rowing, at RC 251, begin BO for neck edge on left side (right for 2nd back) as follows:
  • On carriage side; on RC 251, BO 10 sts; on RC 253, BO 10 Sts; on RC255, BO 5 sts
  • K 1 R, wrap, K 1 R on 1 st; RC 257
  • Remove hold setting
  • K 1 R across all 67 N; RC 258
  • Remove 67 sts onto WY
  • Make second back reversing shaping

SLEEVES: (Make 2)

  • CO 97 (48 X 49) sts with WY; knit a few R; 1 R ravel cord
  • COL; Attach MY; K 3 R; hang hem off WY
  • K 1 R
  • RC000
  • K to RC 168 as follows:
  • *K 5 R; full fashion increase at both ends*
  • Repeat * to * 13 times; RC 65
  • *K 6 R, FF increase at both ends*
  • Repeat * to * 17 times; RC 167
  • K 1 R
  • Turn tension as loose as possible past 10
  • K 1 R; COR
  • Loop through a loop bind off

EDGING:

Options for the front edges and neck edging: There are lots of options – choose your favorite

MAKE UP:

  • Steam all pcs well
  • Hang 1 back shoulder on 67 N; knit side facing
  • Hang 67 N of a front shoulder; knit side facing back (right sides together) and purl side facing you; matching bound off necks
  • COL; Pull all N to E, K 1 R; Tension as loose as possible; loop through a loop BO
  • Repeat with second side of back and remaining front
  • Mattress st backs together in the center
  • Mattress st sleeves to shoulder areas
  • Mattress st underarms and side seams
  • Weave in ends
  • Attach binding or edging to fronts and neck edge
