Quick Bulky Baby Cardigan

  • Yarn: #3 size; Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly
  • Gauge: 6.26 R and 4.50 Sts per inch
  • Size: 3M (6M)

BACK:

  • T. 0/0; Cast on 40 (44) sts in a 1 X 1 rib; Broken Toe cast on; 3 Circular R;
  • T. 3/3; K 9 R ribbing
  • Move ribber sts to MB; RC 000; T. 5
  • K to RC 53 (59)
  • Pull all N to hold except 8 (10) sts by carriage: carriage to hold
  • Remove those 8 (10) shoulder sts onto WY
  • Move carriage to opposite end; Put those 8 (10) end sts into work; Remove onto WY
  • COL; T. 10; K 1 R to right
  • Loop through a loop bind off remining middle sts

FRONTS:

  • T. 0/0; Cast on 22 (26) sts in a 1 X 1 rib; Broken Toe cast on; 3 Circular R;
  • T. 3/3; K 9 R ribbing
  • Move ribber sts to MB; RC 000; T. 5
  • K to RC 44 (50) (one less R on second front to put carr on opposite side)
  • Put carriage to hold
  • *On carriage side; pull 1 N to hold; K 1 R
  • Put 2 (3) sts to hold (next to the first N in hold); K 1 R*
  • Repeat * to * until 14 (16) N are in hold; On 3M Size on the last time to put N to hold, only 1 is pulled on side opposite carr (instead of 2)
  • Remove remaining 8 (10) shoulder sts onto WY
  • T 10; carriage off hold; K 1 R across remining sts L to R
  • Loop through a loop bind off remaining sts

SLEEVES:

  • T. 0/0; Cast on 26 (28) sts in a 1 X 1 rib; Broken Toe cast on; 3 Circular R;
  • T.3/3; K 6 R ribbing
  • Move ribber sts to MB; RC 000; T. 5
  • *K 6 R; using a 3-prong transfer tool, increase one st each end*
  • Repeat * to * 5 (6) times = RC 30 (36)
  • K 2 R
  • Remove all sts onto WY

MAKE UP:

  • Steam pieces
  • Attach fronts and back:
  • *With knit side of back to you; hang 8 (10) shoulder sts on N
  • Hang a front 8 (10) sts; purl side facing you; match up sleeve sides
  • 10; K 1 R
  • Loop through a loop bind off shoulder sts*
  • Repeat * to * for second shoulder
  • Attach sleeves:
  • Hang the 36 (40) sts of the sleeve top off WY; knit side facing you
  • Measure 4 (4 ½) inches down each side of the body from the top shoulder seam and mark with a pin
  • Hang those side sts onto the same N’s as the sleeve; purl side facing you
  • 10; K 1 R; Loop through a loop bind off
  • If making a machine knit edge for front and neck; hang front and neck sts onto N’s; K either a narrow ribbing or a stockinet band; make buttons holes if desired
  • Mattress st under arms
  • If a front/neck edge is still needed; single crochet an edge up fronts and around neck, making button holes by chaining extra sts between crochet sts
  • Weave in all ends; sew on buttons
