Sweet Embrace Shawl

This shawl is so soft and hugs your shoulders like an embrace – plus it stays in place without holding onto it!

Shawl measures approx. 18” X 72”

Slit/band measures 7”

  • Machine: Bulky
  • Yarn: Lion Brand Heartland – I used Cuyahoga Valley colorway; 4 skeins
  • Tension: 5

 

Body of shawl:

  • Tension 1/1; Rack to P3; CO in a 1 X 1 rib over 98 N’s; 2 circular R’s; remove settings
  • RC 000; Tension 5; K 1 R to right
  • Move the N’s into a 3 X 2 rib across bed as follows with 3 N’s on MB on both ends:
    • xxxooxxx Main Bed (x = N in work; o = N out of work)
    • oooxxooo Ribber
  • K approx. 375 R; leave enough yarn for the band/slit; COL
  • Move the N’s back into a 1 X 1 configuration; K 1 R with tension as loose as possible both beds
  • Move ribber sts to MB
  • Loop through a loop bind off

Band/slit:

  • Tension 0/0; CO in a 1 X 1 rib over 18 N’s; 2 circular R’s; remove settings; Tension 5
  • Move the N’s into a 3 X 2 rib across bed as follows with 3 N’s on MB on both ends:
    • xxxooxxx Main Bed (x = N in work; o = N out of work)
    • oooxxooo Ribber
  • K 35 R’s
  • Move the N’s back into a 1 X 1 configuration; K 1 R with tension as loose as possible both beds
  • Move ribber sts to MB
  • Loop through a loop bind off

Make Up:

  • Place band lined up with the ribbed ridges approx. 9 inches from one end; turn edge under
  • Attach band top and bottom by hand sewing to the front of shawl
  • Weave in ends
