Fall Pumpkins

2 different styles

Large Pumpkin

Machine: Standard

Yarn: 2 colors of 3/15 yarn

Tension: 8

  • Pull 150 N’s clear out; push back EON to B position; Push in left part button
  • K 1 R; hang comb and weights; Remove carr setting; K 3 more R
  • I used a Bro 940 machine: Set pattern 448 to use as a fair isle design
  • K 1 R; add second yarn; top MC button
  • K to RC 123; COL
  • Remove patterning; K 1 R
  • Move every other stitch to the right; K 2 R; Remove on tapestry N
  • Mattress stitch side
  • Pull 1 end shut and secure
  • Stuff with fiberfill; pull second end closed, leaving a small hole and secure
  • Run jute pieces on lines of pattern to create the bumps on the pumpkin and secure
  • Run a piece of jute from the bottom through the top and back through to the bottom with a long needle; pull ends to give the pumpkin a flatter look; tie and secure ends
  • I hot glued a craft store pick that had leaves and a stem into the center hole

 

Small Ribbed Pumpkin

Machine: Standard and (bulky for stem)

Yarn: 3 strands of 2/24 or 1 strand of 3 ply; 3 colors: Orange for pumpkin and green for leaf color; bulky yarn stem color

Tension: 5

  • Pull 100 N’s clear out; push back EON to B position; push in left part button
  • K 1 R; hang comb and weights; Remove carr setting; K 3 more R
  • Weight really well all across comb; pull up ribber and move the needles into a 5 X 2 configuration; Both end N’s are on the MB;
  • Needle set up: X = main bed; O = ribber
    • XOOXXXXXOOXXXXXOOXXXXXOO͢͢͢→→→X
  • K approx. 100 R; COL
  • Move all ribber sts to MB; Loosen tension to 7 and K 1 R
  • Move every other st to the right and push empty N’s out of work
  • K 2 R and take sts off on a tapestry N
  • Mattress stitch side
  • Pull 1 end shut and secure
  • Stuff with fiberfill; pull second end closed, leaving a small hole and secure
  • Run a piece of yarn from the bottom through the top and back through to the bottom with a long needle; pull ends to give the pumpkin a flatter look; tie and secure ends
  • Make a stem on the bulky machine as follows: Tension: 4 on bulky
    • Make an I cord by e-wrapping over 5 N’s
    • Set carriage to slip one way
    • K approximately 3 ½ inches; remove from machine
  • Hot glue stem into top hole
  • Make 2 Curly I-cords as follows: Tension: 3 on standard
    • E-wrap on over 4 sts; K 2 R; hang a claw weight
    • Set carriage to slip both ways
    • *K 1 R to left, pull N’s 1, 2 & 4 to hold position; K 2 R
    • Pull N’s 1, 2 & 4 to hold position; K 2 R
    • Pull all 4 N’s to hold; K 2 R*
    • Repeat * to * to desired length – approx. 5 inches
    • Sew onto top by stem
  • Make a leaf as follows: Tension: 6 on standard
    • Pull 20 N’s clear out; push back EON to B position; push in left part button
    • K 1 R; hang comb and weights; Remove carr setting; K 3 more R
    • Inc 1 st on each end with a 2-prong tool; K 6 R
    • *Dec 1 st on each end; K 2 R*
    • Repeat * to *
    • *Dec 1 st on each end; K 1 R*
    • Repeat * to * until 1 st remains; remove from machine
    • Steam lightly so it lies flat; gather slightly at bottom with yarn in cast on
    • Sew onto top by stem
    • A wider or longer leaf can be made by adjusting sts and rows
  • Hide any ends into middle of pumpkin
