Using a Garter Bar

Garter Bar

  • Remove ribber (if you are just learning)
  • Cast on and knit to place in pattern where garter bar is needed and end on right
  • Change comb and weights to claw weights
  • Set machine to slip to left by pushing in left part/slip button
  • Push carriage to left and remove yarn from carriage
  • Remove Part/Slip setting
  • Pull all needles to E and push knitting against bed (opens latches)
  • Put needle stopper on (if you have one)
  • Hold garter bar with grooves (if it has grooves) facing up
  • Place on needles and tug knitting onto bar
  • Push slightly to back to open needle latches again
  • Holding end stitch with fingers, pick up and turn garter bar
  • Match needles to garter bar and holding it flat against grooves of Garter Bar, pull towards you catching each stitch
  • Rotate down in front to see if all stitches are caught
  • Slip garter bar down and back not catching needle hooks
  • Push knitting against back
  • Remove needle stopper
  • Rethread carriage
