Sizes L, XL, 2X

Vest measures 44½, (48, 52½)” around bust and approx. 34” in length

  • Machine: Standard with ribber
  • Yarn: I used Bramwell Duo Magic but a lightweight 3 ply works
  • Tension: 5
  • Gauge: 7.25 sts and 11 rows to an inch

FRONTS: Make 2

  • RC 000; Rack H5; pull out 94, (100, 108) N’s on both beds to make a double bed stockinette band
  • T: 0/0; zig zag R; comb and weights; set carriage to knit circular
  • Tension: 1/1; K 2 R; T: 3/3; K 2 R; T: 5/5; K 2 R; T: 6/6; K to RC 17
  • Move rib sts to MB, doubling sts; remove circular settings
  • RC 000; T: 5
  • Dec while knitting stockinette to RC 244 (255, 255) (K 1 more R for 2nd front)
    • Use a 3-prong tool to dec as follows:
    • Size L: Dec 1 st at each end of every 12th R 16 times; then every 13th R 4 times
    • Size XL: Dec 1 st at each end of every 12th R 5 times; then every 13th R 15 times
    • Size 2X: Dec 1 st at each end of every 12th R 5 times; then every 13th R 15 times
  • At RC 244/245 (255/256, 255/256) remove 6 sts at right (left for 2nd front)
  • Continue decreasing as follows:
    • Size L: Dec 1 st at each end of every 15th R 8 times
    • Size XL: Dec 1 st at each end of every 11th R 10 times
    • Size 2X: Dec 1 st at each end of every 8th R 7 times; then every 9th R 6 times
  • Short row shoulder as follows:
    • Set carriage to hold
    • COL for 1st side; COR for 2nd (K 1 R if needed)
    • *Pull 11, (11, 12) N’s to hold at right side (left side for 2nd front); K 1 R; wrap; K 1 R (KWK)* Repeat * to * 1 more time.
  • Remove setting on carriage and K 1 R over all 32 (34, 36) N’s
    • Remove knitting onto WY
  • Repeat for second front reversing shaping

BACK: Make 1

  • RC 000; Rack H5; pull out 200 N’s (all sizes) on both beds to make a double bed stockinette band
  • T: 0/0; zig zag R; comb and weights; set carriage to knit circular
  • T: 1/1; K 2 R; T: 3/3; K 2 R; T: 5/5; K 2 R; T: 6/6; K to RC 17
  • Move rib sts to MB, doubling sts
  • RC 000; T: 5
  • K stockinette to RC 244, (255, 255) decreasing as follows:
    • Size L: Dec 1 st at each end of every 13th R 8 times; then every 14th R 10 times
    • Size XL: Dec 1 st at each end of every 23th R 9 times; then every 24th R 2 times
    • Size 2X: Dec 1 st at each end every 63rd R 4 times
  • Remove 6 sts on carr side; K 1 R; Dec 6 sts
  • Continue decreasing as follows:
    • Size L: Dec 1 st at each end every 5th R 4 times; then every 6th R 14 times
    • Size XL: Dec 1 st at each end every 4th R 5 times: then every 5th R 18 times
    • Size 2X: Dec 1 st at each end of every 3rd R 2 times; then every 4th R 26 times
  • Short row 1st shoulder as follows:
    • Set carriage to hold; COL; cut MY
    • Pull all N’s to hold except 32 (34, 36) N’s on right edge in work
    • *Pull 11, (12, 12) N’s to hold at right side; K 1 R; wrap; K 1 R (KWK)* Repeat * to * 1 more time.
  • K 1 R over all 32 (34, 36) N’s; COR
  • Remove first shoulder onto WY; push N’s out of work
  • Short row 2nd shoulder as follows:
    • Carriage to hold; COR; Leave 11, (12, 12) N’s on most left in hold but put next (21, 23, 24) N’s on left side into work
    • *K 1 R; wrap; K 1 R (KWK)*
    • Put next 11, (12, 12) sts in work and repeat * to *
    • Put all 32, (34, 36) N’s into work and K 1 R
    • Remove shoulder on WY
  • Remove hold setting
  • Bind off center neck sts

LAPEL/TIES:

  • Make a Full Needle Tuck Rib piece 80 inches by 4 inches as follows:
  • I used pattern #282, elongated, on Brother 940 machine
  • Rack H5; Tension 4: Cast on over 10 L X 10 R on the MB and 11L X 10 R on the ribber (edge N’s on the ribber)
  • Zig Zag Row; comb and weights
  • Move the second N in from the ends on the ribber up to the MB (N 10L and N 9R) (nicer edge)
  • Push those 2 ribber N’s out of work
  • Set carriage to circular knit; K 2 R; remove settings
  • RC 000; K 1 R ribbing
  • Set machine to do FNR tuck (I used the elongate button)
  • KCII; Turn mark; K 1 R; both tuck buttons in
  • K 800 R; remove patterning; K 1 R ribbing to left
  • Move ribber sts to MB
  • Turn tension to loosest setting; K 1 R
  • Loop through a loop bind off

MAKE UP:

  • Block pieces*
  • Hang one back shoulder on N’s with right side facing you
  • Hang corresponding front shoulder onto same N’s with purl side facing you
  • Bind off and repeat for other shoulder
  • Mattress st sides together up to armhole
  • Divide tie piece in half and place center at center back neck
  • Sew tie to neck and inner front edges, ending seam approx 15” down from shoulder
  • Single crochet around arm hole edges and lower front edges below ties
  • Weave in ends
  • * Use these measurements to help you block to the right size:
  • Size X:
    • Fronts are 13” across bottom; 7 ½“  at armhole ; 4 ½” at shoulder
    • Back is 27 ½” across bottom; 22 ½” at armhole; 5” at shoulder
    • 23” hem to armhole; 9 ½” armhole to shoulder
  • Size XL:
    • Fronts are 13 ¾” across bottom; 8 ¼“ at armhole ; 4 ¾” at shoulder
    • Back is 27 ½” across bottom; 24 ½” at armhole; 5” at shoulder
    • 24” hem to armhole; 10” armhole to shoulder
  • Size 2X:
    • Fronts are 14 ¾” across bottom; 9 ½“ at armhole ; 5” at shoulder
    • Back is 27 ½” across bottom; 26 ½” at armhole; 5” at shoulder
    • 24” hem to armhole; 10” armhole to shoulder
