Tuck Rib Band Hat


Machine:  Bulky Punchcard with Ribber (I used Bro 260)

Yarn: 2/11 Cone Yarn or similar weight (3/15 cone yarn is slightly lighter) This is a very lightweight yarn for the bulky machine

  • RC000
  • Cast on in Full Needle Rib over 55 needles (N) (27L X 28R)
  • Tension (T) 0/0 – (as tight as possible on both carriages)
  • Knit (K) 1 zig zag row (R)
  • Hang comb and weights
  • K 2 R circular; remove settings
  • Insert punch card (I used P2)
  • Set carriage change knob to KC
  • K 1 R to right to select N
  • Push in both tuck buttons
  • Release punch card
  • K 20 R ribbing in Tuck Rib using the same T as for cast on (Tuck Rib instructions in your manual)
  • Remove tuck settings and shut off punch card
  • K 1 R plain ribbing to left
  • Move all ribber stitches (sts) up to main bed (MB) doubling sts
  • K 1 R to right
  • Remove knitting onto a garter bar or waste yarn
  • Turn knitting and rehang (not a necessary step, but I much preferred the other side as the public side of the band)
  • Re-weight; RC000
  • T 2
  • Move punch card back to beginning
  • Change knob to KC
  • K 1 R to right to select N
  • Push in both tuck buttons
  • Start punch card
  • K to RC 49 or 59 (depending on length desired)
  • Turn off punchcard and KC knob
  • K 1 R to left – to RC 50 or 60 (or more – adjust length here)
  • Move every other st to the right
  • K 3 R – ending on right
  • Remove sts with a long tail and tapestry N
  • Mattress st side – pulling top tight; weave in ends
