Cuddly Baby Hoodie

  • Machine: Standard gauge with ribber
  • Yarn: #3 baby yarn; 6 or 7 ounces
  • Tension: Body – 10; Ribbing – 4
  • Gauge: 6.75 sts = 1”; 9 rows = 1”
  • Sizes: 6 months (12 mo, 18 mo)

FRONT:

  • Tension 0/0; CO 70 (74, 78) sts in a 1 X 1 rib; Set carr for circular; K 2 R; remove settings
  • Tension 4; K 10 R ribbing; move all sts to MB
  • RC 000
  • Tension 10; K 54 R (58, 63)
  • On carr side, bind off 5 sts
  • K 1 R; bind off 5 sts on other side; COR
  • Place all sts on left side of 0 to hold; carr to hold; cut MY
  • Remove sts in work onto WY
  • COL; carr off hold
  • Put sts that are in hold back into work
  • Decrease for a V-neck as follows:
    • *At center V neck, using a 2-prong tool, dec 1 st; K 2 R*
    • Repeat * to * 9 times (10, 12)
    • **Dec 1 st; K 4 R**
    • Repeat ** to ** 5 times (6, 6)
    • 16 sts remain; K 2 R
    • Remove onto WY
    • Hang other side back onto N’s from WY; COR
    • Repeat dec’s for second side and remove last 16 sts onto WY

BACK:

  • CO 70 (74, 78) sts in a 1 X 1 rib; Set carr for circular; K 2 R; remove settings
  • Tension 4; K 10 R ribbing; move all sts to MB
  • RC 000
  • Tension 10; K 54 R (58, 63)
  • On carr side, bind off 5 sts
  • K 1 R; bind off 5 sts on other side
  • K 40 R (45, 50)
  • Put 44 (48, 52) sts opposite carr into hold; carr to hold
  • Remove remaining 16 sts onto WY
  • Put 16 sts on other side into work and remove onto WY
  • Bind off center 28 (32, 36) sts

SLEEVES: Make 2

  • CO 50 (54, 54) sts in a 1 X 1 rib; Set carr for circular; K 2 R; remove settings
  • Tension 4; K 10 R ribbing; move all sts to MB
  • RC 000
  • Tension 10; K 56 R (65, 72) increasing as follows:
    • 6 Mo: Inc 1 st at each side every 11th R 4 times; Inc 1 st at each side at 12th R 1 time
    • 12 Mo: Inc 1 st at each side every 9th R 5 times; Inc 1 st at each side each 10th R 2 times
    • 18 Mo: Inc 1 st at each side every 7th R 8 times; Inc 1 st at each side every 8th R 2 times
  • K to RC 61 (65, 72)
  • Bind off 60 (68, 74) sts

HOOD:

  • On main bed, tension 10; CO 122 (all sizes) sts in WY; K 5/6 R; 1 R ravel cord
  • Add MY; K 18 R
  • Hang hem from beginning row of MY; remove WY
  • RC000; K to RC 54 (63, 63)
  • Remove onto WY
  • Kitchener sts the back of hood together from WY; leave yarn tail to tie on tassel

POCKET: All sizes

  • CO 40 sts on main bed with E-wrap; Tension 10; K 1 R; hang comb & weights
  • K to RC 37 dec as follows and making a non-roll edge*
  • On even numbered R’s work the non-roll edge* on each side (RC 2 – 36) with 3-prong tool
  • On RC 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29 and 33 work a 1 st dec on both sides using a 3-prong tool
  • At RC 37 bind off 26 sts loosely
  • *Diana Sullivan’s Non-roll edge: On each side, with a 3-prong tool, move sts 2, 3 and 4 out towards edge. N 1 has 2 sts, N 2 & 3 have one and N 4 is empty. Fill in N 4 with heel of st under N 5; K 2 R

MAKE UP:

  • Steam block all pieces
  • Hang one side of back shoulder off WY with right side facing; push against bed
  • COL; Hang matching shoulder of front off WY into N hooks; wrong side facing you
  • Close latches; push all N’s at once and pop front sts through back sts
  • Tension 10+; K 1 R
  • Loops through a loop bind off
  • Repeat with other shoulder
  • Matching center back of hood to center back and placing the beginning of hood 1 inch from point of V on each side; mattress st hood onto garment
  • Mattress st sleeves on
  • Mattress st sides
  • Weave in ends
  • If desired, work a row of single crochet around the point of V neck
  • Hand stitch the pocket onto the front of hoodie
  • Make a tassel: Wrap yarn 40 times around a 4” cardboard. Tie together to top; tie again ¾ inch below top; attach to hoodie
