Double Bed Slip Stitch Baby Blanket


Based on a technique I learned from Mary Anne Oger; technique makes great texture on both sides of the blanket, and it lies flat off the machine – no rolling sides.

Machine: Standard Gauge with Ribber

Yarn: 2/17 acrylic

Size: 20 X 22 Preemie size (29W  X 36L baby size)

Stitch Pattern: Stitch World 1 – Slip Stitch #350 or a similar slip stitch pattern or punch card with diagonal lines

Tension: Main bed 2; ribber 3 (loosen ribber tension if your sample will not lie flat)

  • Insert the fine knit bar
  • H5 racking handle on ribber
  • Cast on *74L X 75R on MB and 75 X 75 needles on ribber (*99L X 100R MB and 100 X 100 ribber) in full needle rib (FNR); *BOTH end N on ribber
  • Zig Zag Row; hang comb and weights; set carriage for circular and Knit (K) 2 rows (R)
  • Prepare pattern either electronically or with punch card; set to elongate
  • Tension 2/3
  • Change knob to KC 1
  • K 1 R to right to select N
  • Push in both part buttons; release punch card to elongate pattern
  • K to RC 263 (420) COL
  • Racking to P5
  • Move all ribber sts to main bed, doubling sts
  • Loosen tension to 10
  • K 1 R to the right to RC 264 (421)
  • Loop through a loop bind off
  • Weave in 2 ends
