Breezy Kimono Style Cardigan

 

Up close of stitch pattern

¾ length kimono style sleeves in tuck lace

  • Machine: Standard with Tuck Lace capability; Garter Carriage
  • Yarn: 2 ply like a 2/17; 1 color for bands and another for body
  • Tension: 4 body; 5 bands
  • Gauge: body 8 sts and 15.5 R = 1 inch
  • Size L, XL, XXL (Finished bust: 40, 45, 50” & length 23, 25, 27”)

BACK:

  • CO over 160, 184, 200 Ns with WY; Comb & weights; K several R; COL; 1 R ravel cord
  • Tension: 5; Attach garter carriage; Change to band color; Set pattern #537 in Stitch World 1
  • According to GC directions; E-wrap R, 1 R back to right, then 14 R garter stitch; COR; remove GC
  • Change color; RC 000
  • Tension: 4; K 2 R; COR
  • Referring to chart in manual, set N pattern on MB for Tuck lace and push empty Ns out of work;
  • Set machine to pattern #290 from Stitch World 1 or get punch card ready
  • Change comb and weights to triangle combs and barrel weights all across work; move as needed
  • KCII; Go by turn mark or engage punch card
  • K 1 R to select Ns; push in both tuck buttons
  • K to RC 339, 371, 401; remove patterning; K 1 R; COR
  • Fill all empty N’s with the heel of the stitch beside it; K 1 R; COL
  • Put all Ns except 58, 68, 74 by the carriage into hold; set carriage to hold; Remove sts onto WY
  • Repeat for other 58, 68, 74 shoulder sts
  • Bind off center remaining 44, 48, 52 sts for the neck

FRONTS: Make 2

  • CO over 58, 68, 74 Ns with WY; Comb & weights; K several R; COL; 1 R ravel cord
  • Tension: 5; Attach garter carriage; Change to band color; Set pattern #537 in Stitch World
  • With GC; E-wrap R, 1 R back to right, then 14 R garter stitch; COR; remove GC
  • Change color; RC 000
  • Tension: 4; K 2 R; COR
  • Referring to chart, set up N pattern on main bed for Tuck lace and push empty Ns out of work;
  • Set machine to pattern #290 from Stitch World 1 or get punch card ready
  • Change comb and weights to triangle combs and barrel weights all across work; move as needed
  • KCII; Go by turn mark or engage punch card
  • K 1 R to select Ns; push in both tuck buttons
  • K to RC 339, 371, 401; remove patterning; K 1 R; COR
  • Fill all empty N’s with the heel of the stitch beside it; K 1 R; COL
  • Remove work on waste yarn; repeat for second front

SLEEVES: Make 2

  • All sizes: CO over 160 Ns with WY; Comb & weights; K several R; COL; 1 R ravel cord
  • Tension: 5; Attach garter carriage; Change to band color; Set pattern #537 in Stitch World
  • With GC; E-wrap R, 1 R back to right, then 14 R garter stitch; COR; remove GC
  • Change color; RC 000
  • Tension: 4; K 2 R; COR
  • Referring to chart, set up N pattern on main bed for Tuck lace and push empty Ns out of work;
  • Set machine to pattern #290 from Stitch World 1 or get punch card ready
  • Change comb and weights to triangle combs and barrel weights all across work; move as needed
  • KCII; Go by turn mark or engage punch card
  • K 1 R to select Ns; push in both tuck buttons
  • K to RC 169; Remove patterning; K 1 R; COR
  • Fill all empty N’s with the heel of the stitch beside it; K 1 R; COL
  • Tension as loose as possible; K 1 R; loop through a loop bind off; repeat for second sleeve

FRONT BANDS:

Tuck Rib pattern in FNR for a 3, 3, 3 ½” wide band

  • Rack H5; Cast on FNR
    • L & XL = 9L X 9 R on MB and 10L X 9R on ribber (edge N’s on ribber)
    • XXL = 11 L X 11R on MB and 12L X 11 R on ribber (edge N’s on ribber)
  • Tension: 0/0; Zig Zag Row; comb and weights
  • Move second N in from the left end on the ribber up to the MB (gives a nicer edge)
  • Push that 1 ribber N out of work
  • Set carriage to circular knit; K 2 R; remove settings; K 1 R to R as ribbing
  • RC 000; Set for pattern # 254 on MB for FNR Tuck band; K 1 R; both tuck buttons
  • Tension 4/4; K 624, 684, 752 R; COR (measure band and fronts for perfect sizing)
  • Remove settings; K 1 plain R
  • Move all rib sts up to MB
  • COL; tension 3/3; keep ribber up and empty Ns in work on ribber; K 1 R; drop sts off ribber
  • With that large stitch, Loop through a loop bind off

MAKE UP:

  • Block all pieces
  • *Hang back shoulder with public side facing off WY; push behind latches
  • Hang corresponding front in latches with right sides together and purl side facing me
  • Push back all sts at once and pop through so there is one st on each N
  • Tension as loose as possible; K 1 R; loop through a loop bind off*
  • Repeat * to * for other shoulder
  • Attach front/neck band
  • Sew sleeves on
  • Sew under arms and sides
  • Weave in ends
