  • Machine: Standard
  • Yarn: 3 ply; 3 colors (body, beard and hat)
  • Tension: 8 (If your stuffing wants to migrate through the knitting, use a tighter tension)

 

  • COR; Pull 80 N all the way out
  • Push every other N (EON) back to B position
  • Set carriage to slip to the left
  • K 1 R; Hang comb and weights; remove carr setting
  • RC 000; knit stockinette to RC 70
  • Change yarn to hat color
  • K 1 R
  • Move EON to out of work position
  • K 20 R
  • Bring all Ns into work; hang a hem from the very first row of hat color onto all Ns
  • K 1 R
  • Dec 1 st on both sides EOR until you have 4 sts left; cut a tail of yarn and remove sts with a tapestry N
  • With beard color cast on 40 N with E-wrap; K 1 R
  • Dec 1 sts on both sides every row for 8 R
  • Dec 1 st on both sides EOR until you have 2 sts left
  • Cut yarn and remove those 2 sts on tapestry N
  • Make a nose by stuffing a small piece of nylon pantyhose; sew shut
  • Mattress st the hat; pull the yarn tight to close bottom and st in place to hold
  • Sew a small 3 x 3” bag with fabric and fill with rice; st shut
  • Stuff the hat and body, but leave the top of the hat unstuffed and floppy
  • Put rice bag in bottom for stability
  • Mattress st body shut
  • Sew on beard under the hat brim and attach nose snug under the brim
