I was playing around short rowing a hat sideways. Since the hat is knit sideways, the right hand side rolls to the purl side, making it the public side of the hat. I knit one in stockinet, but thought I’d try a tuck pattern and liked it so much better. The hat is a very quick knit and almost completely together right off the machine – you only need to close the top hole. It does not require a ribber and was fun to make. The pattern is in Machine Knit Patterns at the top above the blog title under Adult Hats – but it would be easy to adjust for a child.
