Like a Roaring Lion

Our cocky rooster, Mr. B, is making his presence known under my front window with his loud crowing. He is truly King of his domain, as he fulfills his God given job of protecting his “girls”. But he extends that instinct to us and thinks he needs to protect his little harem from us. We are not too bothered by him…although we carry a big stick with us when we go outside that we never have to use, but Mr. B respects.  He protects his hens well, fighting off predators. Even losing his feathers in the fray but winning the fight. We live on 40 acres, so the predators, as he free ranges around the yard, can be daunting for a chicken. A couple days ago, the propane truck arrived to deliver the gas that fuels our home. The truck is big and very loud and came creeping down our driveway. I looked out the window and saw Mr. B running around to the back of the yard, the hens with him, scared of the unknown – fearing something he did not know about and felt was a threat to him. So much for his bravado. It made me think of the verse in the bible in 1 Peter 5 that says we should “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” We can lose our braveness when we feel threatened by Satan’s power around us. But we need not run for cover. If our trust in in Jesus, He protect us and has already won the battle when He died on the cross for us. (Colossians 2: 13 & 14) We can walk confidently when our trust is in Jesus and as the rest of the verse in 1 Peter says… Resist him (the devil), standing firm in the faith.  Mr. B has wandered off with his flock from under my window, but I know he is ever vigilant in his care, just as Jesus is of me.
